Resilience First ‘Leading for Resilience’ Podcast
In 2023 I was invited to team up with Resilience First’s Programme Director, Shazre Quamber-Hill, to interview seven senior change makers from around the world. We invited them each to reflect on what kind of leadership builds essential resilience in a time of permacrisis. These lively conversations delve into the qualities that individual leaders can develop and employ when confronted with an ever-growing array of crises.
Your Daily COPpuccino
Every morning throughout the two weeks of COP26 (Glasgow, November 2021), Resilience Rising published a short YouTube podcast where I interviewed a global thought leader about climate resilience. The idea was that you could listen to it in the time it would take you to drink your morning cappuccino. We published 10 in all, bringing to light the perspectives of some truly fascinating individuals from around the world.
Resilient Leadership Podcast
As the Covid19 pandemic began to take hold, and in collaboration with a London-based NGO, The Resilience Shift, I interviewed 12 leaders around the world every week for 16 weeks, for half an hour at a time. I talked with them about what they were encountering, how they were responding and what they were learning that might be of value to other leaders elsewhere. At the end of each week I circulated to the 12 a summary of the most interesting insights from my week’s conversations. The following Tuesday the CEO of The Resilience Shift, Seth Schultz and I would do a podcast, reflecting on what had emerged the previous week.
In the end we produced 23 podcasts and I wrote a detailed report in book form, which to date has not published.

Walking with
Dr Bernard Brom
into the heart of Healthy Medicine
In 2022 my friend Bernard Brom, pioneer of Integrative Medicine in South Africa, asked me to accompany him on a meander through a forest near Cape Town as he talked about his journey as a doctor and more. He is a delight to listen to and his ideas are very much medicine for our times.
It was a joy to be asked to interview this wise, delightful innovator about his life’s extraordinary work. As we talked, we meandered along Constantia’s beautifully wooded De Hel Trail. (2022, 13 short videos)
Shifting Climate Leadership (2021) Interview
Juliet Mian interviews project lead Peter Willis about the origins and purpose of the Shifting Climate Leadership project and what is already emerging from his conversations with climate leaders.
Why We Shouldn’t Be Afraid of Crisis
Having had Barbara Humpton, the remarkable CEO of Siemens US, as one of the leaders I interviewed weekly throughout the ‘Resilient Leadership’ project, I was invited to be a guest on her own podcast, ‘The Optimistic Outlook’ in November 2020, to discuss the essence of leading in the face of existential crisis.
TEDx Stellenbosch 2010
My starting point for this talk was that we are creatures of story and, as I hope to show with a walk through history to our present global story, it matters greatly what story we assume we’re living in.
